New Stage Theatre Announces 2008-2009 General Auditions

 

New Stage Theatre (Jackson, Mississippi) will hold its annual general
auditions on Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Equity
and non-Equity actors.  Please call 601-948-3533 ext. 222 for an audition
appointment.  Prepare a two-minute memorized monologue and bring a recent
photo. Resumes are not required, but if you have one, please bring it.
Singing is optional, but New Stage will provide a CD player and a piano (but
not an accompanist). 

 

The theatre is seeking all types of male and female adult actors and
singers, from age 18 to 80. Directors viewing the auditions will be
searching for a wide-range of performers including talented young children
ages 10-16, to play roles in To Kill a Mockingbird and a talented young
African-American boy, age 8-12 for The Ponder Heart.  The season also
requires several mature actors and actresses to tackle challenging roles in
To Kill a Mockingbird and The Ponder Heart.  Gee’s Bend is a new play that
requires three African-American actresses and one African-American actor who
can play a wide age range and sing gospel music.  Smokey Joe’s Café requires
several good singer/actors for a multi-racial cast to sing pop songs from
the 1950’s.  Directors will also be considering actors for other projects
during the year, such as the Unframed at New Stage Theatre series in the
Hewes Room Theatre space and the Eudora Welty New Play Series.
